"Writing comes more easily if you have something to say."
~Sholem Asch

Historically, poets have often been the voice of social consciousness.  While it seems that much of the poetry I read these days is personal and introspective rather than political or based on broader issues, there are times when the two converge.  The result, for me, has been a series of poetry exploring homelessness.  You can see some of this latest work on the "Other Stuff" page.

If you are moved to do more than read or think about it, I invite you to join me in supporting the Sidewalk Angels Foundation.  Working with local charities, the Foundation helps to reach out to those who have nothing but their own footprints.

EXCERPT:

I pine for flavors I have never known,
but I would step back into time to taste
my mother’s meat loaf and the cherries
that she canned. I like to think that I could go
back out to the garage and there would be
a jar of them still rimed with dust, up on
the shelf, where I stood tiptoe peering in
the dim. You know the shelf
I mean… the one where all the tastes of childhood go
to haunt us
later on.
